General Electric, GE, requested us to produce a holistic solution for a co-working space for startups in the Vallila office in Helsinki. The people at GE admired our work that we did at the Aalto Design Factory, Startup Sauna and Appcampus. The challenge was to define a space for a company that did not yet exist and in a situation, where the particular needs for the space were not yet clear. In addition, the budget and timeline for the project were set ambitiously.
Health Innovation Village is an ecosystem for healthtech startups, which is situated in Vallila Helsinki in connection with GE’s own office. During three months time we moved from definition to concept creation, spatial planning and implementation to a 700 m2 sized space. We interviewed startup entrepreneurs, investors and users of co-creational workspaces. The end result is a combination of a multipurpose space, combi space and co-working space offering individual small offices as well as shared and designated work stations. In addition, the space offers different meeting rooms, team spaces, Skype spaces, a presentation room, a roof terrace and a social café. Prototyping, saunas and a gym are also available in proximity.
